GUN SAFETY RULES

General Rules |
These rules apply to all ranges ● Membership is required before use of any range. ● All club members shall carry their membership cards. ● Hearing and eye protection are required. ● Alcoholic beverages, intoxicated, or impaired persons are not allowed on any firing line. ● Pick up spent brass/shells and dispose of them in appropriate containers. ● No fireworks, flares, or exploding targets on club grounds. ● No armor piercing, incendiary, flare, or tracer ammo may be used. ● No bump fire or full-auto fire. ● Firearms are not to be handled while others are downrange. Actions must be open and laid on the bench or placed in the racks. ● Members must show proof of membership (current membership card) upon request. ● If there is no Range Safety Officer (RSO) present, one should be designated from shooters present. ● It is the RSO’s duty to maintain order on the range. The RSO ensures shooters follow range regulations which are meant to prevent property damage and personal injury. ● The command “Cease Fire” shall be observed immediately, regardless of who says it. All shooters shall immediately make their firearms safe, ground that firearm and step back from the firing line. ● Chaseburg Rod and Gun Club Inc is not responsible for accidents, loss, or theft. ● Range closed signs may be placed at any time for your protection, range maintenance, to allow others to use other ranges in conflict, etc. Please obey range closed signs. ● Members are responsible for the conduct of their guest, children, and themselves. ● Please note that all ranges are being monitored and recorded by closed circuit tv. ● Only proper controlled fire is allowed. Hygiene Guidelines ● Refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, or placing your hands near your mouth while on the range. (Lead poisoning hazard) ● Wash hands with cold water after leaving the range before eating, drinking, etc. Range Specific Rules 200 yard Rifle Range ● Paper targets are to be placed on the provided target frames. When using portable target frames, targets should be hung at such a height that bullets passing through the target impact in the designated berm. ● Targets are not to be placed over the posts or framework. ● Targets are to be fastened to the backstop by staples or tape. Nails, screws, etc. are not to be used. ● Shooting of non-target items is prohibited. ( eg. cans, bottles, rocks, concrete blocks, computers, tv’s, bowling pins etc.). ● Steel targets and other reactive targets must be placed in such a way as to minimize “splashback” or ricochets. ● This range is closed to all but .22 caliber rifles on trap league nights. ● Deliberate shooting of steel target frames will result in expulsion from club grounds. ● 50 caliber centerfire rifles are not allowed on this range. Muzzleloading ● No smoking or open flames while handling, loading, or firing a muzzleloader. ● No open powder or pellet containers on the firing line. ● Loading loose powder from containers larger than one pound is prohibited. ● Shotgun and birdshot only (no slugs). ● Shooting of thrown clay targets only. Trap Range ● Automatic throwers must be placed on grass surfaces. ● Place nothing on top of trap houses. ● Hand throwers must stand behind shooters. Patterning Board ● May be used only when trap range is not in use. ● No steel shot or waterfowl loads. ● Shotguns only. ● Shooting must be done from at least 30 yds. Archery Range ● Make every effort to retrieve your arrows. ● Broadheads may be used only in sand pit. ● Only fieldpoints are to be used in target animals and target blocks. Upper Pistol Range ● Only pistol calibers are allowed (9mm, .45, .357,.22 etc.). Rifles may not be used on pistol range. ● Pistol range is closed during trap league nights and trap events. ● Shoot from center of bay. ● No cross-lane shooting. ● Only paper targets attached to target carriers are allowed. Use staples, tape, or clothespins. No nails or screws should be used. ● No steel reactive targets may be used on this range. ● No cans, bottles, rocks, or non-paper targets allowed. ● Pistols laid on the shelf must have muzzles pointed downrange and actions open. ● Only authorized personnel are allowed downrange and only after pistol range has been closed. 25 yard Short Range ● No explosive targets. ● No bumpstocks or full-auto fire. ● Only approved target items may be used, no trash, tvs, cinder blocks, or bowling pins. ● Deliberate firing into target frames will result in expulsion from club grounds. ● Only staples, tape, or clothespins may be used to attach targets to target frames, no nails or screws may be used. ● Steel reactive targets or gongs may be used on this range, but must be placed in such a way as to minimize ricochet or "splashback". ● 50 cal centerfire rifles are not allowed on this range. ● Shotguns, handguns, and rifles may be used Administrative Rules ● Range hours are from 8 a.m. until ½ hour before sunset. Trap range may stay open later as it is lit. Board approval is required for exceptions for special events. ● Range Safety Officer (RSO) has full authority to inspect any firearm or ammunition on the range and may order any firearm or ammunition off the range which they, in their sole judgment, consider to be inappropriate or in an unsafe condition. ● The RSO has the authority to hold or secure a firearm he or she considers unsafe to leave the range. (eg. inability to clear a loaded round from the chamber). ● Any shooter who has been observed violating rules in this handbook may, at the discretion of the RSO or Board member, be ejected from the range. The RSO or Board member will submit a written account to the Range Committee, which will judge the seriousness of the violation and recommend an appropriate penalty to the Board of Directors. The RSO or any Club Officer has the authority to confiscate a member’s membership card for serious violations. The Club Officer shall bring the incident to the board for discussion. ● Any member who feels aggrieved by the decision of the Range Committee may appeal to the Board of the Directors. ● An emergency (911) telephone is available on the front porch of the clubhouse and on the Short Range. A first aid kit is located on each range. ● Each shooter is expected to comply with any other rules that may be posted. ● Shooters under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. ● Club events take precedence over open shooting. ● In the event of an accident resulting in injury, a detailed report must be made out by the acting RSO and presented to the Board of Directors. |
